Welcome to Pauline's Piano
I'm a piano teacher based in Melbourne’s Inner West, offering lessons at my Footscray studio. I teach students from school age to adults, focusing on building confidence, creativity, and a love of music.

My Philosophy
My lessons give students the knowledge of how to play the piano - reading, articulations and pianistic technique. The approach is by reading notation intervallically, learning by rote (copying the teacher and use of memory), and improvisation (learning how to make up your own music).
I teach according to each student’s learning pace, ability and interests. Every student is different. It is so important to build that student teacher rapport in private piano lessons.

A few words from my clients
About Me

I’m a piano teacher. I love playing the piano and have been since I was 10 years old. My teachers opened my eyes to the world of classical piano music.
I began playing piano with the AMEB exam series and later studied piano at the University of Melbourne’s Conservatorium of Music. Although I completed a Bachelor of Arts, music remained a constant in my life. While working in local government and raising a family, I continued teaching piano part-time from my university days.
In 2010, I opened my own studio, Pauline’s Piano, in Footscray, Melbourne’s inner west. Since then, I’ve proudly taught students of all ages and run an ever-evolving teaching practice. Whether you’re school-aged or an adult beginner, if you have the desire to play, you can - and will!

Yes a piano either a digital piano with weighted keys or an acoustic piano is required because playing piano at home is essential for learning and to progress.

Yes! Students can take part in several performance opportunities throughout the year, including:
Piano Performance:
● Doutta Galla Aged Care Footscray - About 4-5 times a year, students play for piano for Aged Care residents. Dates have been arranged for piano students to play for their residents. Invitations to students will be emailed and registration required as places are limited. (Covid restrictions may apply to adults only). https://www.dgas.org.au/aged-care/footscray/
● The Annual Piano Concert - is held in August every year. Held in a spacious venue, this concert is a highlight of the year where students perform for family and friends. It’s a celebration of their hard work and progress.
Group Piano Lessons
At the end of the term, students are organised into small groups (usually 5 students) to perform to each other. This is an opportunity for students to meet with their peers and to enhance their learning experience through performance and group activities. Group piano lessons are dependent on availability.

Welcome to 2025
Students of Pauline’s Piano have many piano concerts this year.
The start of piano lessons have been all smiles. Students are happy to be back and establishing their piano practice routine.
We are lucky to work with Doutta Galla Aged Care. The students perform for the residents and everyone enjoys the afternoon.
Our Annual Concert has been moved from the end of year (too crazy) to a Winter month when calendars are less jam packed.

Attending Concerts
These days we are so lucky to live in Melbourne because there are so many opportunities to take our children to concerts, real live concerts. So exciting!
An important part to learning a musical instrument is to watch and listen to others play music. This increases your own music knowledge and plus motivates.
Well Wishes, Pauline
